Software Department Manager (m/f/d)

Job description

As the software department manager, your mission is to oversee and lead the software development team to achieve the company's goals and objectives related to software products and solutions, to meet industry standards and customer requirements.

You will be responsible for leading and managing the software development team, setting department goals, and aligning them with the company's overall business objectives. This includes planning, organizing, and monitoring software development projects, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality software products, and managing resources effectively.

You will work closely with the company's leadership team and partner with the Chief Architect to define the software department's strategic direction, including identifying opportunities for innovation and growth, evaluating emerging technologies, and making recommendations on software development strategies and roadmaps.

You will be responsible for building and maintaining skilled and motivated software development teams, as well as Scrum Master and Product Owner groups. This includes recruiting, hiring, training, mentoring, and providing ongoing feedback and performance evaluations to team members.

You will encourage and foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the software development department. This includes identifying and implementing new technologies, tools, and methodologies that can enhance the team's productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as product management, quality assurance, design, and other departments within the organization, to ensure smooth software development processes and successful product launches. You will also communicate regularly with senior management, providing updates on departmental progress, risks, and opportunities.

Profile

You will be expected to have a strong understanding of software development lifecycles (SDLC), software development methodologies, technologies, and best practices. You enjoy and make a point to continuously learn about new technologies (trends and market evolution in the domains of AI, Cloud, computer vision, cybersecurity, but not limited to these).

Structured, systematic and organized in your ways of working, you prioritize according to the delivery needs of the organization.

You are optimistic, motivating and visionary, and are available for travel between our subsidiary companies in Switzerland, Germany, and Czech Republic. 

Professional requirements

  • Proven experience as a software department manager
  • Project/product management and development skills
  • Deep understanding of Agile principles (XP, Scrum, Kanban, LEAN) and development/innovation processes

Languages

  • Strong communication skills in English are mandatory
  • A good command of German and/or French would be an asset
