2003 was an extraordinary year for Swiss Timing, marked by a very
intense summer, and especially a month of August during which,
after having spent 15 years in the Longines premises in Saint-Imier,
the company moved home and set up its new premises in Corgémont.
With the Olympic Games now approaching, Swiss Timing naturally focused
its attention on Athens where, in spite of the major delays in construction
work, widely publicized in the press, 18 pre-Olympic tests were run
between August and December to evaluate the actual needs of the various
partners involved. Returning to the cradle of the Olympics, the technological
advantages offered by Swiss Timing will be reaching new heights, by
processing and instantly transmitting all information data on site at
the games, during which the expertise and sheer professionalism of some
300 technicians will be guaranteeing the success in this major operation.
Nonetheless, in 2003 this intense pre-Olympic preparation did not eclipse
Swiss Timing's many other international commitments undertaken for the
various Swatch Group brands which rely on the company.
During winter, Swiss Timing was engaged by Swatch to ensure timing
and data processing at the World Downhill Skiing and Snowboarding Championships,
at which skiers and snowboarders alternatively confronted each other
all over the world, from the European Alps all the way to South Korea
and Japan, stopping off in the U.S.A. and Canada on the way.
In 2003, Swatch also added another string to its bow in timing the
Beach Volley-Ball World Cup - a popular television fun sport - with
Swatch brilliantly showing its prowess in Bali, Japan, Brazil, U.S.A.,
China and Greece.
Swiss Timing supplied Timing and data processing for Omega at the most
prestigious Grand Prix events in Athletics, held in Lausanne, Zurich,
Rome, Berlin, Stockholm, Oslo and Doha. The brand also covered the World
Cup Swimming Championships on all five continents, the European Synchronized
Swimming Championships in Istanbul, the European Water Polo Championships
in Ljubljana, the World Swimming Championships in Barcelona, and the
World Short-Course Swimming Championships in Dublin.
As for Longines, the most prestigious International Horse Shows, such
as Hickstead, Barcelona, Rotterdam, Cannes, St. Gall and Vienna presented
the ideal arena for the brand's communication program.
With renewed long-term contracts signed with the International FIG
and European UEG Federations, Longines supplied data recording and processing
at the World Championships in Artistic Gymnastics in Los Angeles, Rhythmic
Gymnastics in Budapest, Trampoline in Hannover, the European Championships
in Artistic Gymnastics in Moscow, Rhythmic Gymnastics in Rieas, as well
as the World Cup Finals in Acrobatics in Krasnodar and in Aerobics in
St. Petersburg.
Convinced of the importance of sport in its communications strategy,
Tissot once again called in Swiss Timing for the World Fencing Championships
in Cuba, and for the World Wrestling Championships in New York. At the
same time, the brand continued is collaboration with the UCI at the
Mountain Bike World Cup in Europe, USA and Canada, the World Road Cycling
Championships in Hamilton, Track Cycling Championships in Shenzen, China
and Mountain Bike Championships in Lugano, not forgetting the Tour de
Suisse and the Tour de Romandie, in Switzerland.
Finally, in collaboration with Omega Electronics, Swiss Timing brought
its know-how to bear at the Pan-American games in St. Domingo, as well
as at the Venezuelan Youth Games.
Backed-up by its vast overall experience and its development of state-of-the-art
technology, and through tirelessly keeping up with the requirements
of athletes, television and the general public, Swiss Timing has set
its sights on remaining the referee at major sporting events for a very
long time to come.
